Get Wristy

Published by jentollette at 11:53 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

In order to get the most from our golf swing we have to be in shape.   But for those who don’t have the time to go to the gym every other day you can concentrate your efforts on the most important muscle for the golf swing.   Your forearms.   The forearms are directly associated with the clubface, they have the most influence at impact then any other body part.   In order to hit the ball straight you need the forearms to rotate at the right speed at the right time.

So how do we get this to happen?   Strengthen them.   Use stress balls while you are at your desk working or free weights at the gym or at home.   One of the best exercises I like to do on the golf course is to take my driver and hold it by the grip with my arm extended straight out in front of me.   Keeping my arm steady all I do is turn my wrist so the head of the driver goes back and forth like wind shield wipers.   The weight and length of the club give me enough resistance to give my forearms a good workout, and it doesn’t cost any thing.
So try making your forearms the center of attention in your workouts for a while.   You may find yourself hitting the ball further and being able to control the direction easier.
